IDW - Star Trek: Klingons - Blood Will Tell

There are two sides to every argument, and this special collection looks at some of the most famous encounters between the two classic adversaries of Star Trek, The United Federation of Plants and the Klingon Empire — but from the Klingon perspective! Star Trek fans are used to the Klingons responding with “swift and blinding violence,” and now Blood Will Tell explains why. Also includes a gallery section by artists David Messina and Joe Corroney. Written by Scott & David Tipton with art by David Messina. SPECIAL BONUS: Blood Will Tell #1, Klingon Language variant edition, is included in this volume.

Issue 1 - "Against Their Nature"
Kahnrah, a member of the Klingon High Council, must decide if he should follow Chancellor Gorkon's lead and accept help from the Federation in the wake of the Praxis disaster (Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country). Discussing the matter with his granddaughter, K'Ahlynn, he reminds her of their QuchHa' ancestry and their family history, beginning with the death of cousin Kagh at the hands of Starfleet and the incident at Organia (TOS: Errand of Mercy). Kor and his first officer, Kahlor, another kinsman, assume control of a mudball named Organia, where they find a population of sheep and a man named Baroner. Kor is intrigued by the angry young man and appoints him as his liasion. Baroner and his friend, a Vulcan trader, turn out to be troublesome Starfleet officers. When a Federation fleet arrives, Kor doesn't get the glorious battle he wanted, just a distasteful peace treaty and grudging respect for a Starfleet captain. Following the incident, the High Council decides that guile may succeed where force of arms has failed.

There are two sides to every argument, and this month starts an exciting new series looking at some of the most famous encounters between the United Federation of Planets and the Klingon Empire — from the Klingon perspective! First up, an unsteady peace breaks out into full-scale war after a Klingon cruiser is destroyed by the Federation starship Enterprise. How will the Klingons respond? How do you say "swift and blinding violence" in Klingon? From the creative team that brought you Angel: Auld Lang Syne. Available with a Klingon photo cover — and ask your retailer how to get a special incentive cover by artist Joe Corroney, with or without cover logos! Errand of Mercy

Issue 2 - "Beneath the Skin"
Kahnrah and K'Ahlynn continue their discussion. Klingon guile and human distrust are the subtext for the tale of distant cousin Gralmek, small in stature and strength, who volunteers for surgery and covert placement as Arne Darvin, assistant to Nilz Baris, a Federation administrator on Station K-7 responsible for development of Sherman's Planet (TOS: The Trouble With Tribbles). Unfortunately for Gralmek, visiting Captain Koloth and his crew, and the Klingon age of espionage, fuzzy vermin are formidable adversaries. Gralmek's service is rewarded with discommendation, but his story suggests that Klingons and humans may have something in common.
It's time for another glimpse at Star Trek history from the Klingon perspective, and this month we look at the origins of one of the U.S.S. Enterprise's most famous missions! Rocked by the events of the previous issue, the Klingon High Council turns to a new tactic in their struggle against the Federation: espionage! What will one Klingon do to prove his worth to the Empire? And what most improbable creature will stand in his way? The Trouble With Tribbles.

Issue 3 - "The Order of Things"
Klingon High Council member Kahnrah and his granddaughter, K'Ahlynn, continue their discussion of Klingon experiences with the Federation. When espionage fails miserably as a tool for expanding the Empire (Blood Will Tell #2), the Klingons begin a campaign of conquest by subterfuge on the planet Neural (TOS, A Private Little War). Kinsman Krell, commander of the IKS Korthos, visits Neural on a regular basis and plants the seeds of conquest firmly in the hearts and minds of the village people after selecting Apella, a hapless villager, to be his liasion. In spite of Earther interference with the hill people, Krell is successful. K'Ahlynn finds little to admire in the Federation's response to Krell's efforts, but Kahnrah needs to know if humans can be trusted, and still hasn't made a decision about Gorkon's plan. Stardate: After 9521.6, following the explosion of Praxis, Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country with a flashback to 4211.4, Commander Krell's Log Entry #3854, IKS Korthos.
They say history is written by the victors: Blood Will Tell continues its look at the other side of the coin in the battle between Starfleet and the Klingons! Still struggling against the treaty with the Federation, the Klingon Empire looks for a new way to conquer: behind the scenes, one planet at a time. Can a single Klingon tame a world? Commander Krell aims to try!

Issue 4 - "Blood Reign O'er Me"
K'ahlynn accompanies her grandfather, Kahnrah, to the Museum of Military Triumph and Conquest. They meet Morglar, an old comrade of Kahnrah's, and former security officer aboard the Voh'Tahk, commanded by Kang. Morglar recollects the events of Day of the Dove. Trapped on the Enterprise, Kang and his surviving crew engage in a bloody standoff with the crew of the Enterprise, feeding a malevolent entity. Morglar and his security team kill humans, over and over again, but in the end, he loses his blind hatred. He also believes that asking the humans for help might not be such a bad idea. Kahnrah makes his decision and prepares to go before the High Council.
Another look at the struggle between the Federation and the Klingon Empire, from the perspective of the galaxy's fiercest warriors, the Klingons! This month, a handful of Klingons battle for control of a Federation starship in this alternate view of the classic Day of the Dove. Will they be able to commandeer one of their enemies' most powerful vessels? Or are they themselves merely pawns in a larger plot? From the creative team that brought you Angel: Auld Lang Syne. Artist Joe Corroney once again provides a special incentive cover.

Issue 5 - "Losses"
Having made his decision to support Chancellor Gorkon's proposal to seek Federation help, Kahnrah finds himself hunted in the mean streets of the First City. Armed with his mek'leth, he eludes four assassins and encounters his granddaughter. For a moment he believes K'ahlynn will help, but discovers that she is opposed to begging for help from humans. In the end, blood does tell, and Kahnrah must kill K'ahlynn. In the council chamber, Kahnrah casts his vote for change and for survival.
The decision has been made! The Klingon Empire is in desperate need of assistance, but will they be willing to ask for it? Kahnrah has chosen how to cast his vote in the High Council - the question is, will he survive long enough to do so? It's high political intrigue, Klingon-style, in the grand finale of Blood Will Tell!
