In April 2017 Eaglemoss/Hero collector solicited a new series of ship models based on both of the Battlestar Galactica series from 1978 and 2004. These are made of die-cast metal and ABS plastic and are larger than their normal ranges with the first four issues being around 270 mm long. In October 2017 the prototypes for the Viper Mark I and II and the 2004 series Cylon Raider were shown at NYCC.
UK price is £44.99 per issue. US only subscriptions were confirmed on 11 January 2018 on Ben Robinson's twitter account and they went live on 9 May 2018.
Each model is accompanied by a 16 page magazine measuring 151 x 197 mm.
An article was posted on the Hero Collector website on 28 Feb 2018 previewing the first four issues and on the same day pre-orders went live for issue 1.
When issue 1 was released there was a suprise inclusion of a limited edition of 250 "Husker" variants distributed randomly. These were packed with sequentially numberd certificates of authenticity measuring 210 x 148mm.
Issue 1 was first received by customers on 23 March 2018 in the UK and 7 April 2018 in the US.
On May 25 the "Apollo" Viper Mark II convention variant
was announced at NYCC and was limited to 500 units. These were also packed with sequentially numbered certificates of authenticity, in a regular box with a gold sticker. They were also available at Destinaiton star Trek in Birmigham, England in October 2018.
In November 2023 Master Replicas listed a number of "Apollo" and "Husker" Viper Mk II variants for sale. The product details on their website stated "Please note that these ships were found without certificates, and do not include them, limited to 1 per person". This suggests that there were significantly more of each variant produced than the 500 and 250 indicated by the respective certificates. A little over 100 Huskers were available, 50% by raffle and 50% via their webshop. I'm not sure how many Apollos were available but they were all via the webshop.
In August 2020 an encyclopedic "Shipyards" reference book will be available showing 38 ships from both series, and a further "Designing Spaceships" volume will be available in 2021, featuring 18 ships.
